With everything in life, you need to make sure that you organize yourself and get ready to establish your priorities. Moving is no different. You need to determine how much stuff you are taking with you, where you are moving to and how you are going to move. Whether you choose one of the moving companies in your area or ask your friends to be your personal movers, here is a list of five things that you should take into consideration.
- Procrastination – This is one of humanities biggest flaws. Sometimes it seems as if we can’t even help it. But, just try a little bit harder and do proper planning. Even when you think you are too tired to pack and clean, remind yourself that if you want to have a pleasant relocation, you need to schedule those things that you want to get done ahead of time. If packing is not your cup of tea, call a moving company and hire professional movers fast.
- Over-Packing – It doesn’t matter if you are moving yourself or if movers are handling your relocation; the more things you have the more expensive the task will be. For instance, moving companies hire based on weight, or, by the hour. The more things you have, the longer the movers will take to get your things on the moving truck. Also, now that you are moving, it is a good opportunity to redecorate your home, and a house that suffers from clutter, is far away form being a cozy and comfortable environment.
- Get Insured – Whether you are using a moving truck rental or having a full service moving, getting insurance is literally a life savior. Insurance is one of those “Hate it” or “Love it” deals. Although it is the last thing in our minds, when moving, accidents sometimes happen. In the hustle and bustle of moving, and crunch and bunch of boxes, in the truck ride over and carrying up stairs and elevators, things might get broken. Avoid loosing your favorite vase or paying to get your furniture fix. Get insurance and safe yourself the trouble of loosing money.
- Read the Moving Contract Carefully – By now, your moving bill must have been explained into detail to you. Make sure that you read the fine print of any document you sign. Make sure you understand it and do not overlook any details. Remember, there are no stupid questions, but stupid people who never ask.
- Get Your Receipt! – Get a copy of every document you sign, of your moving bill and any other moving services you might have requested. If you paid in advance, which is most likely to be the case, get in print what you paid for.
